South Africa

Back when I had a much more exciting job, I had to fly to South Africa for a work conference. Since I was flying all the way to the bottom of the world, I tacked on a few days to do a safari.

The conference happened to be in October, which is Fall here in Seattle but Spring in South Africa. That turned out to be awesome timing for two reasons:

1. It’s still low season so there are solid deals to be had. I got a free night at a higher end safari lodge that I think usually only hosts fancy Europeans.

2. All the baby animals are born in Spring. So just in case big ole rhinos aren’t cool enough for you, they throw in baby ones too!

But the adults were still pretty spectacular, even when they didn’t have a little one in tow…
